Course Description/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome

 Japanese companies operate in a unique organization structure in terms of business management. Specifically, HQs limit their functions and give strong authorities to business units/subsidiaries so that they run businesses in their own ways. Roles of CFOs of Japanese companies are limited to accounting and treasury functions, and management control activities are performed in many different business units/functions by non-accountants. This way worked well before 1990s, but many of Japanese companies are in transformation stages.
In this course, we learn how US-based global corporation has been transforming and how their run CFO/FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) and CHRO/HRBP (Human Resource Business Partner) organization to maximize corporate value. Then we intend to discuss the next steps for Japanese companies.
The lecturer of this course worked as CFO/FP&A of several American companies and now is a consultant to encourage Japanese companies to transform.

Objective of the course
Target students are expected to understand how the world-class global companies are operating and how Japanese companies should transform, and then lead such transformation to maximize the value of the company they work for.
