Course Contents/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome

This course will look into the international security environment surrounding Japan, and analyzes Japan’s new national security and defense policy as well as its challenges so that the students obtain basic knowledge on Japan’s national security in the current turning point as a basis for their conduct of international security study in Japan.
The course is combination of lectures and some class discussion.
As the basis for the class discussion, the instructor will give lectures, based on his long experience in the Government of Japan for the planning and implementation of the national security and defense policy, particularly in the fields of legislation, policy framework, Japan-US Alliance and international security cooperation.
The students are required to be ready for each session by reading the relevant part of the White Paper in advance.
