Course Contents/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome
The purpose of this couse is that students will learn the theories and concepts relevant to the field of stratification and inequality. We will review several important articles in this research field. Based on the reviews and notes taken by each student, we will go ahead with this course. The content of this course covers: Intergenerational social mobility, Educational inequality in comparative perspective, institutional arrangements in shaping educational inequality, education and labor market, the role of social capital and labor market, gender inequality, and racial and ethnic inequality. An instructor will assign reading materials related to these topics. Students will take notes on the assigned readings and they will discuss these articles based on the notes. Students will take the notes based on the Learning-through-discussion (LTD) methods. The details of this learning method will be explained in class.
