Course Contents/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome

This course aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the art of Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851), the 19th-century master of English landscape painting, using a variety of approaches in the study of art history.
It explores Turner's interest in the materials and techniques he used, as well as his engagement with history, literature, poetry, and sciences such as optics and colour studies, and examines how these are reflected in his work, taking into account the latest trends in research.
The course aims to provide students with specialist knowledge of Turner's art and the art history research skills essential to the study of Western art, particularly British landscape painting.
