Course Summary
There are people in the community who are unknowingly facing challenges such as childcare, nursing care, health, isolation, etc., and who wish they had someone to talk to, someone to consult, or someone to help them. There are people in the community who can contribute to improving and resolving these issues, including people with a wealth of experience and knowledge, but without opportunities to connect with these people, these issues will not be improved. In order to improve this situation, we need a place in the community where we can connect with people and provide opportunities to connect with people who can contribute to improving issues and problems. It is not enough just to have a place to stay, but it is also important to create a place where people can get to know and care for each other, and a place where people want to go.
Therefore, this course will provide opportunities to participate in the management and planning of local places to stay in the Shonan area, including the area surrounding SFC, in cooperation and collaboration with residents' groups and government agencies.
The time of the study group will be used for planning and preparation of community activities at the fieldwork sites. By interacting with residents during the fieldwork, which will be held on a separate day, participants will gain knowledge and experience about the actual conditions of the community and its residents, with the aim of developing the ability to plan and implement specific measures in the future regarding the operation of local places of residence and community activities.
This course will be held jointly with Prof. Miki Akiyama's Kenkyu-kai.

Course Description/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome

There are two types of activities for participants: (1) those who participate in a community center where local people have already been involved in activities and provide a new opening for participants, and (2) those who establish a new community center (place) where there are no community activities and start with planning, publicity, and gathering staff to run the center.
In either case, the participants will be asked to conduct fieldwork outside of the workshop hours in cooperation with local stakeholders and participate in activities as members of the planning and management team.
Through these opportunities, the participants will experience the current situation of “the need for places and people to improve the weakening of community ties,” understand what perspectives are necessary for the planning and management of community activities and the continuation of activities, and develop the ability to participate as an operator when the opportunity to participate in such activities arises in the future. The goal of this program is to cultivate the ability to participate as a manager when the opportunity to participate in such activities arises in the future.
In addition, through fieldwork and practice, students will be able to understand the following
(1) Characteristics of the community and residents who participate in community activities
2) Know-how in planning and managing community activities in which residents participate
3) What is needed to change the awareness and behavior of local residents
