Course Summary

Students will read the literature in order to learn the basics of academic studies and social research. Fourth-year students will present their individual research for their graduation project, which will be an important milestone in their lives. One-day fieldwork will also be conducted.
Students will also gain practical experience in presenting their spring semester research fieldwork and graduation projects in the form of an exhibition at ORF.

Course Description/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome

The goal of this seminar is to encourage students who are or will be in the field to record their experiences, incorporate them into a research plan, and finally summarize them in the form of a thesis or other written work. For this purpose, “reading” the literature is important. The output of fieldwork will not be limited to ethnography, but will also show that there are various qualitative research options, including life history and historical research, and exploration of one's own experiences.

For example, the kind of people we weclome are the following:
・People who can take action to find questions by carefully understanding reality, without jumping into solutions or answers
・People who are passionate about recording and communicating.
・People who seek to understand not only their own values, but also how the world looks from the perspective of people in the field
・People who can find excitement and intellectual curiosity in everyday things
・People who can travel light and visit a variety of sites
