Course Summary

In the National Security Strategy and National Defense Strategy published in December 2022, the defense production and technological base is an essential foundation for ensuring stable research, development, production, and procurement of equipment in Japan and incorporating advanced technologies necessary for new ways of fighting into defense equipment, and the policy was clarified to position it as the defense power itself for Japan and to work on fundamentally strengthening it.
Based on this policy, in order to implement measures such as "ensuring stable manufacturing of equipment, etc.", the Defense Production Base Strengthening Act was enacted in June 2023 and came into effect in October of the same year. Now that more than a year has passed since the enactment of the Act, what is the state of Japan's defense production and technological base? In this project, we will attempt to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current situation and challenges of the major actors supporting Japan's defense production and technological base through lectures, model making, and facility tours.
