| Course Description | The Seminar is central to activities at SFC where faculty members and students work together on a diversity of issues as a prelude to the Graduation Project. At SFC, students do not merely learn answers to given problems. Education at SFC aims to nurture and send out leaders of the future who are able to identify problems and create methods of resolving them. Through participation in such research, students work on real problems in society and gain a high level of expertise, and with this in hand, they embark on their Graduation Project that will be their "fruit of designing the future" as well as a personal proposal as they advance towards the future as individuals. |

Course Summary
We are always in communication. Understanding the notion of communication is to think about when, where, and with whom we get together, and what and how we talk to each other. In other words, an interest in communication inevitably leads to an interest in "place" and "place-making. In this Kenkyukai, we are conducting practical research on the "movement (mobility)" of people, the nature of "places" where people gather, and "place-making" from the perspective of communication and media studies.
Course Description/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome
We are always in communication. In the book Pragmatics of Human Communication, Watzlawick and others describe "some tentative axioms of communication." The first of these axioms is, "We cannot NOT communicate." That is to say, we have no choice but to communicate, no matter where or when we are. We realize once again that not only our nonverbal behavior but also our silence is a message.
Understanding communication is thinking about when, where, and with whom we get together and what and how we talk to each other. In other words, an interest in communication inevitably leads to an interest in "place" and "place-making. In this Kenkyukai, we are conducting practical research on the "movement (mobility)" of people, the nature of "places" where people gather, and "place-making" from the perspective of communication and media studies.
Use words carefully and accurately -- this is what I always try to do in my activities. For example, I would like to choose words carefully by eliminating as many keywords as possible, such as "regional revitalization," "urban development," and "community," which may sound like they are just for the sake of it. We must persistently seek to talk and express ourselves carefully with the other person (the audience) in mind.
In the spring semester of 2025, we intend to explore the nature of communication and expression between people, focusing on how people move, gather, socialize, etc.
In particular, as we look back over the past few years, we would like to reconsider the value of learning at universities and campuses.
I've included the details below. Please read them carefully and consider them slowly and carefully. (The contents will be updated as needed.)
