Course Description/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome
Each group in this Kenkyukai will deepen discussions on a topic of interest to the members, while going out into the field to conduct activities and deepen discussions with their peers in the classroom. Group activities will also focus on the various social and economic factors that influence individual and group wellbeing (Social Determinants of Health = SDH).
There are two types of activities for participants: (1) those who participate in a community places where local people have already been involved and established, and (2) those who establish a new community place. In either case, the participants will be asked to conduct fieldwork outside of the workshop hours in cooperation with local stakeholders and participate in activities as members of the planning and management team.
Through these opportunities, the program aims to help participants realize, through hands-on experience, the current situation in which “places and people are needed to improve the situation of weak community ties,” understand what perspectives are necessary for planning, managing, and sustaining community activities, and gain experience that will enable them to participate as leaders when the opportunity to participate in such activities arises in the future. The goal of this program is for participants to gain experience that will enable them to participate as leaders when the opportunity to participate in such activities arises in the future.
In addition, through fieldwork and practice, students will be able to understand the following
(1) Characteristics of the community and residents who participate in community activities
2) Know-how in planning and managing community activities in which residents participate
3) What is needed to change the awareness and behavior of local residents
Furthermore, students will develop the ability to summarize and present these practical activities in the form of research and project reports.
Some examples of research topics carried out in the past were wellbeing of the elderly, support for children in the community to create a place for them to stay and learn, support for long-term hospitalized children, and raising awareness of bone marrow transplantation. In addition to these topics, health promotion and making connection and creating community for all generation are important thus, students who are interested in such topics are also welcome.
We are open for the diversity.
