授業科目の内容・目的・方法・到達目標
The goals of this course are to: 1. examine the nexus between literature and intercultural communication, and 2. understand fundamental concepts and principles in the academic field of intercultural communication. Students will read excerpts from various books, short stories, and social science articles that treat themes most broadly addressed in intercultural communication research: for example, identity, the benefits and pitfalls of intercultural contact, personal transformation, discrimination, and cultural change. Each student will be required to read the assigned text each week, participate actively in discussions held in English, and at least one point in the semester, take leadership in presenting one of our texts to the class. Students will be expected to read texts critically and thoroughly about the aforementioned topics, and they will be mentored in how to improve their presentation skills about contemporary issues in intercultural communication.
