Course Contents/Objectives/Teaching Method/Intended Learning Outcome
This is a study group for those interested in French culture, literature, and thought of the 20th century. I myself am mainly interested in the thought of Georges Bataille, but students interested in contemporary thought from existentialism to post-structuralism, French culture since the 1930s, including literature and film, and social phenomena and political issues such as the Charles Hebdo affair and the Gillets Jaunes are also welcome to join. We welcome students who are interested in French culture, such as literature and cinema since the 1930s. In the spring semester of this year, we will continue to focus on Michel Foucault's thought, explaining his major works and reading his 1978 interview "Dialogue with Foucault," as we did last year. In the second half of the semester, each student will be asked to give a presentation on a theme of interest to them.
